Sharpening the 'I's of Education

The term employability is all related to the alphabet 'I,' which stands for Industry, Institute and Interaction. These three factors together build the required skill sets, making the students worthy for a job. Hence, the industry-institute interaction has become the most preferred activity for all the technical institutions today. KLS Gogte Institute of Technology (KLS GIT), which started its journey 37 years back, is a well-focussed institute fostering employability since its inception.

With a focus on the industry-oriented learning, KLS GIT gives professional training in aptitude, communication skills, interviews and group discussions. Today, however, there is an increasing need for the partnership programs and the institute coordinates with various firms to bring out the best from the students. "Our placement officer interacted with the Microsoft team, which made them put forward an exclusive innovation centre from their side and they conduct academic programs for all the streams to crystallize their career," claims Dr. A. S. Deshpande, Principal,KLS GIT. While, the Microsoft helps the institute to achieve better placements and internship opportunities, the IBM Career Education is another major step taken by KLS GIT through which they strive to impart 100 percent placement assured training program of 300 hrs duration. The training provides guidance on the use of five industry standard tools. "The course will be certified on IBM tools and these students will be entitled as IBM certified professionals, which will additionally boost their employability," adds Dr. Deshpande.

The joint venture of the institute with Spires Engineering, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Belgaum Foundry Clusters(BFC), Japanese International Cooperation Association, United Kingdom trains the students in CATIA V5 and highly skilled professionals are rendering this training to the Mechanical/ Industrial Production and Civil Engineering students into Designing. To add on, the institute also collaborates with RGBSI in the U.S.,which is in search for highly talented students in their R and D section. "The training programs offered by Wipro and Xento Technologies for the students inject more on their employability traits," says Dr. Deshpande, who takes pride in the increase in the number of approaching companies for recruitment and he always attributes this with the industry tie ups.

The academic year 2015-16 saw an aggressive hiring from top-notch companies with a record of 830 campus placement offers from various branches of both under graduate and postgraduate streams from Engineering, MCA and MBA. "Over the years, we have established very strong brand equity, which made us a preferred campus hiring destination for top MNC companies," says Dr.Deshpande. Almost 65 companies visited the campus for hiring season this year with TCS, Microsoft, Wipro, Mercedes Benz, Tech Mahindra, MindTree, Quest Global, Bosch, Mphasis, Continental Automotive, Online Instruments, AFCONS, Alpha9Marine, Metrofinancial, Airtel, Vodafone, BNY mellow, ITC and Axis Bank being few among them. Deshpande adds, "Companies like GE, TVS, Capgemini, Fanuc India, AshokaBuildcon, Infosys, Accenture, Kratos Engineering, and HP have already shown interest for campus placements for the coming hiring season for 2017 batch and the highest salary offered till now is Rs. 10 lakhs per annum by Microsoft."
It is just not the industries; even the institute makes them ready for the job by imparting pre-placement training programs. It includes training on communication skills, verbal and other language related subjects such as resume writing, acing the interviews, etiquette, dressing sense and many more.Students are even trained for the competitive exams like CAT, GRE and so on and this kind of training is more advantageous as trainer remains available on the campus all the time. "Along with all this, we do engage Face experts in specific and focused training for TCS, Wipro, Mind tree and AMCAT based tests for the final and pre final year students," pinpoints Deshpande.
