Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) unvieled its AMD Fusion Family of Accelerated Processing Units (APU) in India, the E-Series and C-series. The APUs which is not bigger than a 50 paise coin claims to offer the best balance between powerful computing with efficient battery life in a thin-and-light laptop. “In a situation where visual perception has become the key, especially among the youth, the processor's limitation can prevent consumers from enjoying high-end graphics,” says Manju Hegde, Corporate Vice-President, Fusion Experience Programme.

“The new design now offers to ordinary people the computing capability that was earlier associated with supercomputers,” he added.
The E-Series is an 18-watt TDP APU and was formerly codenamed “Zacate” is for ultrathin, mainstream, and value notebooks, desktops, and all-in-ones, whereas C-Series, which is a 9-watt APU formerly codenamed “Ontario” is for netbooks and small form factor desktops and devices. “AMD Fusion will eliminate the need for consumers to choose between power and performance enabling exciting new computing experiences at price points that offer tremendous value. This will also allow our partners to offer exciting new form factors on a robust computing platform,” said Ravi Swaminathan, Managing Director and Regional Vice-President, Sales & Marketing, AMD India.

A third version from the family, a higher-end A-series APU would also be introduced in May this year. “The new family of processors represents the biggest shift in PC technology in 40 years,” says Swaminathan. He also added that leading computer manufacturers such as Sony, Dell, HP, Asus, Lenovo, MSI and Toshiba will launch these APU-based systems soon.
