A much needed change breaking the monotony in the curriculum of engineering institutions, is taking place right now. The Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) is changing the perception of engineering as a discipline. Students today have the freedom to choose from the prescribed courses and can learn at their own pace and the entire assessment is graded-based on a credit system. Keeping pace with such changing trends in the education sector is Bharath University. Established in 1984, the institute is one of the pioneers of the flexible CBCS.

With the basic idea to look into the needs of the students so as to keep up-to-date with development of higher education in India and abroad, the University has adopted latest techniques in teaching methods that includes case studies, practical exercises, corporate guest lectures, practical exercises, and individual counseling. In individual counseling, an academic counselor is assigned to the students, who guide them in identifying the courses based on program requirement, course prerequisites, student's ability and their interest in various academic disciplines. All these teaching methods are a great way to reduce the skill gap that hinders employment in India.

As a multi-stream and multi-cultural institution providing high quality education to nearly 10000 students from around the world, Bharath University offers several conventional courses. Apart from this, it also offers value added courses to hone the skills of the students. With over 1000 faculties, among which 300 are PhD holders, the university emphasizes on faculty development programs to enhance their teaching abilities and to maintain a good student-faculty relation. The faculties actively participate in activities related to research and also guide the students with theirs.

An Enriching Learning Experience

Skill development is a requisite in today’s world, where people in the industry are looking to recruit fresh talent. The university curriculum is designed with a specific focus on enhancing the skills of the students. Keeping in mind the requirements of industry, the institution provides many pre placement trainings and activities that include institute-industry interaction, pre-joining learning initiatives, alumni activities participation in industrial exhibitions, seminars to promote useful interaction with the industries and much more. The institute maintains MoUs with international universities including Northampton University, Thomas J Watson School of Binghamton University, Pace University for collaborative projects on faculty and students exchange programs and collaborative research projects. “We have signed MoUs with industry giants consisting of TCS, Accenture, Mahindra, Wipro, for Curriculum Development, Faculty Development Program, Student Development Programs,” says Dr. K.P. Thooyamani, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Bharath University. This helps the students at the time of internships and placements. Maintaining an average of 90 percent placement record for the last five years, the university takes pride in being able to deliver the students their desired jobs.
