TomTom Unveils Car Navigation Products in India


Bangalore: TomTom, the Netherlands-based automobile navigation system maker, launched its products for car buyers in the country with an intention to expand its businesses in India. The company has been developing maps in India since 10 years. TomTom has now set up its headquarter in Pune and is looking forward to increase the number of headcounts by 400 towards the end of this year. Jocelyn Vigreux, TomTom India Managing Director said, "India is going through a tremendous growth. The series of new navigation systems that we are introducing today are specifically designed for the Indian market." He said the company is setting up some engineering activities in India in order to promote its growth in the coming years. "We are also hiring aggressively. We will have 400 people by the end of this year." The company has rolled out three new products namely Via 100, Via 120 and Via 125. These products can be availed in the market from next month, with price range starting from 15,000 for retail customers. Reliance Digital, Reliance Autozone and Carnation are the leading retailers of the products, besides about 70 car accessories outlets in the country. The products will cover 5,000 cities and towns across the country and the voice service will include 11 local languages. China will be the source of hardware for the country. Commenting on the company's future plans on providing navigation systems to vehicle makers, Vigreux said, "At this point of time, we are talking to a number of global and regional original equipment manufacturers. However, we cannot say anything now." Toyota, Renault, Fiat and Mazda are some of the major global customers of the firm, while non-automotive clients comprise Google and BlackBerry. The 1.5 billion euro firm is present in 80 nations worldwide with 200 offices with an employee strength of 3,5000 globally.
