Originally created by Swedish programmer Markus Notch Persson and later developed and published by Mojang, Minecraft is a sandbox indie game. It is a game about breaking and placing blocks. People built structures to protect against night monsters, but as the game grew players worked together to create wonderful, imaginative things.

In 2009 it was released for public as a developmental alpha version, the full version was released later in 2011. The same year an IOS version was released for android and in 2012 the game was released on Xbox 360 as an Xbox Live Arcade game.

In 2011, it received five awards from the Game Developers Conference, the Innovation Award, Best Downloadable Game Award, the Best Debut Game Award and the Audience Award. Also In 2012, it bagged a Golden Joystick Award in the category Best Downloadable Game.

The game is consists of four game modes: survival, adventure, creative and multiplayer mode. It is available at the price of 26.95 dollars for Mac.
