Sprint unveils Kyocera Echo Smartphone

Bangalore: Sprint and Kyocera unveiled their new smartphone, Kyocera Echo, aiming mostly at the customers using third generation wireless technology.
The smartphone that will operate on Google's Android OS, will be the first to have dual touchscreen. Each screen has a size of 3.5-inch. The top screen, by sliding it out, can be placed in a way that both the screens lay side by side, presenting a bigger display when compared to other smartphones.
Kyocera Echo has features like access to 3G network and all the 100,000 applications available on Android market, 5-megapixel camera, and battery life of about 10 hours. Along with this, the phone will come with an extra battery that can be charged at the same time as the device, according to Fared Adib, Vice President of Product Development, Sprint.
With two screen display, the phone is capable of enhancing multi-tasking as both the screens can be operated independently. In 'Single-Screen Mode', the phone can be used as a normal touchscreen device. On the other hand, in 'Simul-Task Mode', both the screens can be used at the same time for different purpose.
In 'Optimized Mode', both the screen display will support one program. And in the 'Tablet Mode', both the screen display can be used to view one application.
It will hit the market in next quarter at a cost of $199.99 with a two year contract.
