SpeechJammer: A Shut Up Gun!
Bangalore: ‘SpeechJammer’ is a tech-gun to make people stop talking, without any physical harm. The device is a directional speaker which comes along with an input microphone, a motherboard and software which are clocked into a small box. This prototype device is developed by a group of researchers in Japan at Kazutaka Kurihara of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, and Koji Tsukada of Ochanomizu University.
Delayed Auditory Feedback (DAF) is the technology used in this device, this technology turns people's own voices against them in a disconcerting fashion which causes a ‘jamm’ in their speech when their own voices are played back to them with a slight delay of about 0.2 seconds. "We utilized DAF to develop a device that can jam remote physically unimpaired people's speech whether they want it or not," writes Kurihara and Tsukada.
The gun is more effective when the delay varies in time and more effective against speech that involves reading aloud than against spontaneous monologue. And it has no effect on meaningless sound sequences such as "aaaaarghhh", reports MIT Technology review.
This new device will be playing an important role in world peace in the future for sure. And the need of this device in our parliament house is quite urgent.
