Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, Qualcomm's Powerhouse for Flagship Devices
Qualcomm revealed a new high-end mobile System-on-Chip (SoC) on Wednesday (April 3, 2025), the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. This follows the 8s Gen 3, introduced last year, and is based on the older Kryo CPU rather than the Oryon core used by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.
Qualcomm says that it has enhanced the 8s Gen 4's CPU and GPU performance by 31percent and by 49percent respectively. The AI functionality is also enhanced by 44percent while energy efficiency is improved by 39 percent.
The chipmaker has included on-device ray tracing capabilities and an 18-bit triple image signal processor (ISP) that is capable of supporting up to 320MP camera sensors 4K at 60 FPS on HDR video capture. The SoC also includes Snapdragon Elite Gaming features such as Snapdragon Game Super Resolution 2.0, Qualcomm Adaptive Performance Engine and Adreno Image Motion Engine 2.0.
The camera can identify and upscale to a maximum of 250 layers in an image at 4K resolution. Real-time skin and sky tones correction captures natural color in poorly lit areas and Night Vision 2.0 records ultra-low light videos at silky-smooth 4K at 30 FPS.
The chip features a built-in Snapdragon X75 5G modem with a peak download speed of 4.2 Gbps and is compatible with sub-6GHz spectrum rather than the more rapid mmWave frequency bands.
The chipset further receives Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0 connectivity.
The NPU supports in-device GenAI and can operate LLMs to allow the device to perform AI tasks better.
Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 will be launched soon with OEM companies such as Xiaomi, Oppo, Redmi, IQOO and Meizu.
