Privacy-Focused Blackphone 2 Goes on Sale

BANGALORE: The security oriented Blackphone 2 Smartphone that was unveiled at MWC 2015 earlier this March is now available to buy online. The phone is listed with a price tag of $799 (Approx. 53,000) unlocked version. For the time being the Blackphone 2 will only be available for buyers in North America and soon it will be marketed to UK and other markets across the globe, reports NDTV.

Buyers get discounted price on first-generation Blackphone and it is available on regular e-commerce website other than official website.

Blackphone 2 features an updated version of the company’s Android-based PrivatOS, now renamed to Silent OS. It comes with a 5.5-inch full-HD IPS display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and is powered by a 64-bit, 1.7GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor and paired with 3GB RAM and Adreno 405 GPU.

The Smartphone carries a 32GB inbuilt storage unit and it can be expanded up to 128GB. It boasts a 13-megapixel rear shooter with BSI sensor and dual LED flash, along with a 5-megapixel fixed focus front-camera. The Blackphone 2 supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 for a 3060mAh Li-Po battery.

Mike Janke, Co-founder and Silent Circle chairman during the launch in March this year said, "Never before have private citizens been under barrage from world governments - hacking, vacuuming, and chipping away at our privacy." He also added, "We're replacing BlackBerry, we don't care that BlackBerry's CEO is throwing nasty things about us onto Twitter. We're going to dominate them."

John Chen, CEO of the firm said, "I am confirming our plans to launch Priv, an Android device named after BlackBerry's heritage and core mission of protecting our customers' privacy. Priv combines the best of BlackBerry security and productivity with the expansive mobile application ecosystem available on the Android platform," addressing the potential competition BlackBerry Priv.
