Bangalore: A look at the latest Android 2.3 version Gingerbread powered Nexus S, makes hardly a real difference. Ofcourse, with the continuous leaks about the phone doesn't really help to keep up the spirit. So, what makes this sweet product from Google different from all? It's all about its sensors. Think of Gyroscopes, barometers or gravity sensors and they are all there.
And this is a pretty good news for all app developers. Confused about how would these sensors really help? Take for example the Nintendo's popular Wii video game console, which allows one to play it with almost bare hands. The people behind the Wii Remote, InvenSense, are taking their movement recognition technology to Gingerbread. It's the same concept that has recently gained control over the mobile market. When the technology is added to a mobile phone, the handset's utility changes in several intriguing ways. It can, for example, function as a motion-sensing mouse that lets you browse the mobile Internet by tilting the device left, right, up or down. It even can allow you to monitor a fitness workout by measuring the number of steps you take, your speed and the calories burned. Also, the best function of the sensors are portrayed in the numerous game apps developed for iPhone 4 like Real Racing, Gyro Draw. So, app developers can experiment more in this new platform, courtesy its open source status.
The Android platform include additional sensor fusion APIs, which will allow developers to use the device's gyroscope with the magnetometer and accelerometer. Using these things together will allow for full 1:1 motion processing. Next time, you see someone with a Gingerbread based phone answering a call just by shaking a finger, don't be surprised.
More to it is the faster and power efficient system, all thanks to the friendly User Interface. The Near Field Communications which will allow smooth transactions in NFC terminals, is Google's attempt to be at par with the m-payment or the mobile wallet buzz in the market.
