Bangalore: Back in March 15, 2010, Nokia announced in its official blog, the launch of its new project 'Design by Community' which aimed to create a smartphone concept device of the future designed by the inputs from the readers. By the end of two months, the display and UI, camera, enhancements, were revealed and by May 2010, the design was up for voting.
After over 18,000 votes were cast to decide on the final version, the concept device is ready and called the Nokia U.
The Nokia U, created by the community at large, has some pretty interesting features. Let us have a look at the characteristics of the concept device.
The device sports a 4 inch capacitive display screen. There is an 8MP camera with 4X optical zoom, dual LED and Xenon flash. The device is HD video capture ready.
Its connectivity features include Wi-Fi, USB, HDMI, cable charger and Dolby surround sound. It uses an open source OS with unlimited multitasking and supports device based storage. Majority of the OS functionality responds to touch control.
The size of the device is 60 x 110 x 6-10mm and its enhancements include kinetic power booster, multiple OS support, Surround Sound Speakers, upgradable Flash memory, and upgradable image sensor.
The Nokia U does seem to be an interesting concept and represents all that a smartphone enthusiast would want from his smartphone. However, it remains to be seen whether Nokia would turn their concept device into a real device or not? Only time will tell.
