LG Unveils Gram Laptops with AI Features at CES 2025
LG Electronics, the South Korean electronics giant, has announced that it will unveil its latest LG Gram laptops at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025, scheduled to begin in Las Vegas, US, on January 7. The new laptops will be the first in the LG Gram series to include on-device artificial intelligence (AI) powered by the company's proprietary 'Gram AI' technology.
The Gram AI suite features a unique offering called "Gram Chat," which lets users interact directly with AI-driven services on their device. Gram Chat processes and analyzes data locally, without requiring an internet connection. This feature utilizes a compact language model derived from LG AI Research's EXAONE large language model. Furthermore, Gram Chat will feature a "Time Travel" capability, similar to Microsoft's Recall feature, which allows users to revisit web pages, documents, videos, and audio files accessed before.
Taking a hybrid approach, LG will also offer paid, cloud-based AI services through 'Gram chat Cloud'. This subscription-based AI service will be powered by OpenAI's GPT-4o AI model and will offer more detailed and comprehensive responses to queries. Additionally, Gram chat Cloud will be able to integrate with personal calendar and email services, offering a smoother workflow. LG said that Gram chat Cloud service will be offered for no additional cost for the first year with new Gram laptops.
LG said that its 2025 gram line will encompass four models: Gram Pro, Gram Pro 2-in-1, Gram and Gram Book. The laptops will be powered by Intel Core Ultra H-Series (Arrow Lake) and the Intel Core Ultra V-Series (Lunar Lake) processors. While LG will offer its own suite of "Gram AI" features on all four models, the Core Ultra V-series chip-powered devices will get exclusive AI features that Microsoft offers on its Copilot Plus PC platform. LG has also revealed the specifications for the upcoming models.
LG Gram Pro offers the following laptop variants. They offer various lineups according to users' requirements. LG Gram Pro 17" is available with a 17-inch WQXGA LCD display that carries a 400nits brightness level, as well as it is set for a 144Hz refresh rate. Intel Core Ultra (7th and 5th generation) processor accompanies it with NVIDIA RTX 4050 along with 6GB GDDR6. It supports up to 32GB of LPDDR5X RAM, offers storage from 512GB to 2TB (Gen4 NVMe), and comes with Dolby Atmos stereo speakers for the best audio experience. The laptop supports a range of ports: USB 3.2 Gen2, USB 4 Gen3x2 Type C with Thunderbolt 4, and HDMI 2.1 for 4K at 60Hz, all supported by a long-lasting 90Wh battery.
The LG Gram Pro is available with pretty much the same feature set of a slightly smaller 16-inch WQXGA LCD at 400nits brightness with a 144Hz refresh rate. This features Intel Core Ultra processors from gen 9th, 7th, and 5th gen along with Intel Arc. It comes ready with LPDDR5X at up to 32GB memory and provides between 512 GB and 2TB in the storage end. Like its 17-inch counterpart, it has stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, versatile port options, and an HDMI 2.1 port, paired with a 77Wh battery.
For users that require a more versatile device, the LG Gram Pro 2-in-1 is equipped with a 16-inch WQXGA+ OLED or WQXGA LCD display with 400nits brightness and 120Hz for OLED and 144Hz for LCD. This laptop is also powered by Intel Core Ultra processors and Intel Arc graphics, offering up to 32GB LPDDR5X RAM and storage of 512GB to 2TB. The 2-in-1 model has the same strong connectivity features and a 77Wh battery with Dolby Atmos audio.
Lastly, the LG Gram Book is more slender and features a 15.6inch FHD LCD display with a brightness level of 300nits and a 60Hz refresh rate. It runs on an Intel Core i5 processor and Intel Xe graphics, with up to 16GB of RAM and storage options ranging from 256GB to 1TB NVMe. Dolby Atmos stereo speakers, multiple USB ports, and HDMI 2.1 for 4K at 60Hz are supported by a 51Wh battery. These devices showcase LG's commitment to delivering high-performance, versatile laptops with cutting-edge features and sustainable power solutions for a wide range of professional and personal needs.
