LG Flaunts New Mid-range X-series Smartphones Ahead of MWC

Upon hearing the LG X screen name, you might presume that this is the one with the "advanced screen" that LG is talking about; you hit bull’s eye. With the X Screen, you will be getting a phone with similarly mid-range specs, but you also get a secondary always-on screen, just like we saw with the LG V10. The phone’s main display is 4.93-inches and HD (720p); additionally, it has a 13MP rear camera, 8MP front camera, quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, and Android 6.0 Marshmallow. And the choices of colors are fewer, limited to Black, White, and, perhaps thankfully, Pink Gold.

Curiously, none of the devices specifies about any microSD card slot. Both handsets are very thin, measuring in at around 7mm in thickness, and the X cam weighs only 118 gram.

The big idea here, as expressed by Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG Mobile, is that "customers shouldn’t have to pay for features that they don’t want." With Android Marshmallow and LTE connectivity on board, both the X cam and the X screen, still have a reasonable chance of satisfying most users' needs, even without having the most outstanding components within.

"Everyone has a favorite smartphone feature," said Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. "At LG, we think there's room for devices that do one thing very well and that customers shouldn't have to pay for features that they don't want. At the end of the day, we're committed to offering consumers more choices."

The LG’s X cam and X Screen price has not yet been released, but LG has stated that it will come at "a price that rivals mid-range smartphones", so we can probably get an idea of where that price will end up. Samsung's Galaxy A3 had a starting price of INR 20,000 and with the X cam being in a similar class, we could expect parity in their prices, or may be less.

We'll have more details about these devices next week. For now, we know they will arrive in "key markets" in Asia, Europe and Latin America starting next month.
