iPhone 5 to Get Slim Down

Bangalore: The much anticipated iPhone which will release towards the end of the year will use a new technology that would make its screen much thinner.  The screen is being developed by Asian component makers, Sharp, Japan Display and South Korea's LG Display. These two companies are also producing panels for iPhones. The technology that the companies are working on integrates touch sensors into the LCD which makes it unnecessary to have a different touch-screen layer.

The iPhone 5 will be the first new device that Apple will launch since the death of its co-founder Steve Jobs.

The absence of the layer makes the screen thinner and the quality of displayed images would improve, said DisplaySearch analyst Hiroshi Hayase, the Journal reported.

The iPhone 5 as it is referred to by Apple fans will have panels that will use “in-cell technology”. This makes the additional touch screen useless thus reducing the screen thickness by half a millimeter. Along with reducing the thickness of the screen it will also improve the image quality and will also lead to cut in cost as Apple will now no longer have to buy additional touch panels and LCD screen from separate manufactures.

Another advantage that a thinner screen will have for both Apple and its users is that there would be more room available for other components such as a large battery which is very important part of any mobile device.

There are also certain speculations that there will be some change in the screen size, since its inception Apple hasn’t changed the size of its display.  But rumors point towards the fact that Apple might increase the height while the width remains the same. This would change the resolution to 1136 X 640 pixels. There are also saying that the headphone jack will be relocated to the bottom of the iPhone.
