Google To Launch Gem Smartwatch And Nexus 5 In October

Bangalore: We have already witnessed the smartwatches Galaxy Gear from Samsung and SmartWatch 2 from Sony. If we go by rumor mills, the next one will come from Google, called Gem. Exciting thing is— the watch will be launched alongside the new Nexus 5 in October itself.

According to the Google Plus post by Android Police’s Artem Russakovskii, the smartwatch is codenamed as Gem, will run on the upcoming Android, 4.4 KitKat, and will be announced on October 31 along with the release of Nexus 5 Smartphone.

Adding fuel to the rumor is a patent of Google’s upcoming wristwatch getting spotted online. According to the patent statement, the smartwatch can include a wristband, a base, and a flip up portion. The watch may come with a processor, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, a touch-based screen.  Further, the flip up portion can include: a top display exposed when the flip up portion is in the closed position and an inside display opposite the top display.

And also, The Wall Street Journal had reported previously that Google is working on its very own smartwatch and an Android-based gaming console. The journal attributed the information to the sources that are familiar with Google.

All we can do is wait and see how these rumors will take shape before Google officially announces the devices.
