Dell's Android Fails to Compete With iPad

Bangalore: Similar to Streak 5, Dell has stopped selling its Streak 7 Android tablet in the U.S. market. It existed just for a short life span to compete with Apple iPad.

Dell has announced on its website that Streak 7 powered by Google’s mobile operating software is no longer available in the U.S. market but continues to be available in Australia through partners such as Opus and10-inch version in China.

"Dell remains committed to the mobility market and continues to sell products here and in other parts of the world," the company said in an email, reports AFP

Dell Streak 7 which was launched in January failed to gain acknowledgment in a Consumer Electronics show. Dell is not ready to give any further explanation of Streaks’ discontinuation which received only 2 out of 5 stars in PCWorld’s review.

The first tablet which made a good effort to compete with Apple’s iPad is Amazon’s Kindle Fire. Amazon’s 7- inch Kindle Fire tablet is one of the best selling products in the market compared to others. 7-inch Kindle Fire costs $199 which is slightly less than Dell’s tablet which is $200.

Throughout 2011, iPad competitors sold nearly about 1.2 million tablets of which discontinued HP TouchPad constitutes 1 percent over Samsung’s 16 percent. But Apple is said to have sold more than 10 million iPads.
