Catching them young! Now a tablet for babies


Las Vegas: Amidst the deluge of tablets that were introduced at the CES, one worth mentioning is a tablet called Vinci that is designed specially for infants and kids up to age 3. It claims of helping the babies know the world better and stimulate learning via interactive content. Launched by Hong Kong based company Rullingnet,the Vinci Tab has a 7 inch touchscreen display running on Android platform. It is powered by a 1GHz Cortex A8 processor and has a 3MP camera on the rear of the tablet. It has 512MB of RAM and has a micro SD card slot and USB connectivity. There is no Wi-Fi connection to prevent the little ones from the effects of radiation. The device has built-in speaker,microphone as well. There is a built-in 6400mAH rechargeable lithium-polymer battery that runs up to 8 hours. It supports only English language as of now but the company claims additional language support will be added at a later stage. Since it is a tablet exclusively meant for the toddlers, the Vinci Tab comes with many safety features like the screen cover is made of tempered glass - the same material used in car windows. It is certified as per standard ASTM F963, Consumer Safety Specification for Toy Safety. The handle of the tablet is made of Versaflex and is according to Handle Material Safety Standards as babies may suck or chew the handle. The Vinci Tab is marketed as an active learning tool for the kids that will develop the cognitive,social and emotional skills of the users.It comes with various apps and games series that include a kitchen,a farm,a zoo,a playground and sport scenes,all of which are extensions of a baby's daily life. The tablet will start selling from mid 2011 and is priced at $479.
