Apple to Unify Offline and Online iPhone Prices

Most online resellers obtain a pricing advantage by picking up iPhone stocks from markets where value added tax on mobile phones was lower at 5 per cent such as Hyderabad and Bengaluru, and selling them in places where VAT is higher at 12.5-14.5 per cent. Thus gaining a margin benefit and could offer discounts, leading to a huge price difference between offline and online marketplaces.

Apple Stores that sells iPhones and iDevices in retail price popping up in the country may also make things complicated to Apple sales. If this trend continues, Apple could be looking at a sales chart that dips even further with little profit from its retail stores. Indeed, uniform pricing will be the answer to Apple’s current sales problems. The reports also suggest that the company plans to directly sell online.
The Economic Times reports about, Chief Executive Tim Cook who recently said Apple is placing long-term bets on India. Samsung leads the Indian smartphone market and competes with Apple in the premium segment, where devices cost upwards of Rs 30,000.
