A new e-reader Wink all set to hit market

Bangalore: A new e-reader named Wink is all set to hit the market later this month. The Wink, which is product of a Bangalore-based company called EC Media (International) will be available with a six-inch screen for 8000, writes Anish Sadanandan for WhatBlog. The reader is available in two versions, in the basic version with 800 x 600 resolution and in 1024 x 768 resolution. Amazon's Kindle 3, which has been launched recently, can be a tough competitor for Wink. Kindle 3, which costs 6500, has a six inch screen and is 20 percent faster and 21 percent smaller than the original Kindle. There is another e-reader in the market called Pi, which can read e-books in Indian languages like Sanskrit and Hindi among others. Priced at 10,000, Pi uses an electronic ink screen that is easier to read than traditional backlit screens. But Wink also has some tricks up its sleeve. EC Media has tie-up with U.S.-based digital warehouse Ingram. It also has access to over 10,000 books. The company also has plans to unveil Wink Books, its own digital publisher in an effort to tie-up directly with writers.
