Vivo Introduces the First-Ever Smartphone with a 6GB RAM


BENGALURU: This announcement shall come as a treat to all the smartphone gazers out there as the makers of the world’s slimmest smartphone, Vivo plans to launch another benchmark smartphone featuring 6GB RAM, called Xplay5 Elite. The launch of this smartphone is accompanied by the Vivo Xplay5 that packs 4GB of RAM and comes at a very affordable price.

The Xplay5 Elite comes in a dual curved 5.43-inch Super Amoled display with QHD (1440x2560 pixels) resolution and is powered by Qualcomm's flagship chipset, the quad-core Snapdragon 820 SoC clocked at 2.15GHz. Apart from offering 6GB RAM, it integrates an Adreno 530 GPU, and is made of metal with Gorilla Glass 4 coating body. The physical dimensions of the phone measure up to a 153.5x76.2x7.59mm for body and it weighs 167.8 grams. The Operating System utilized is an Android 6.0 Marshmallow with the Funtouch OS 2.6 skin on top.

People who are planning to buy this phone will be surely overwhelmed by the features it puts together. It sports a 16-megapixel rear camera powered by Sony IMX298 sensor, phase detection autofocus (PDAF), 6P Lens, f/2.0 aperture, and dual-tone LED flash, while the front camera packs an 8-megapixel lens. 4G LTE networks (Indian bands included), Hi-Fi 3.0 (2*ES9028+OPA1612), Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS, Micro-USB (with OTG) are some additional features that the phone flaunts. It houses 128GB of non-expandable inbuilt storage, and is backed by a 3600mAh battery. Furthermore, the device integrates a bunch of sensors - gravity, ambient light, proximity, gyroscope, a split-screen multitasking functionality, and a fingerprint sensor at the back.

The Vivo Xplay5 has Android 5.1 Lollipop for OS with a Funtouch OS 2.5.1 skin on top. It shares the same dual curved QHD display, camera, battery, connectivity options, and inbuilt storage as seen with Xplay5 Elite and the size and weight dimensions remain identical too. The difference however is realized in the processor attributes as the model packs an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 SoC clocked at 1.8GHz, clubbed with 4GB RAM and Adreno 510 GPU. Another noticeable difference would be the Hi-Fi chip used, a CS4395+AD45257.

Priced at 44,000 INR, Vivo Xplay5 Elite is supposed to hit stores in China from March 8 while the Vivo Xplay5 will be available in Chinese markets at a rough price of 38,000 INR. Both these smartphones look promising enough to set standards for the next phone you plan to buy. Future plans include introducing it in Indian markets but the timeline remains uncertain.
