The First Firefox Phone To Launch In 9 Countries
Bangalore: Mozilla, famous for its Firefox Web browser, will start selling its phones running in its mobile operating system this summer. The phone will be launched in nine countries such as Brazil, Colombia, Hungary, Mexico, Montenegro, Poland, Serbia, Spain and Venezuela.
According to reports from Business Insider, Gary Kovacs, Mozilla CEO said Firefox OS initially will be focused towards emerging markets and the first phone will be launched around June.
Even though it aims at emerging markets, the U.S. won’t be left out. U.S. based company; Sprint has promised to launch a Firefox OS phones and is rumored to be released in 2014. Kovacs added that Mozilla is waiting for the ecosystem to develop further before its launch into the highly competitive U.S. market.
Firefox OS is a web-based mobile operating system that is open to any developer to fiddle with. It works similar to Android, but all the apps run within a browser for a uniform experience across all the devices.
