Sony Unveils Xperia ZR, First Smartphone That Shoots HD Video Underwater

Bangalore: Sony Mobiles has hit the limelight with its waterproof Smartphones, equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core 1.5GHz processor. Codenamed as Xperia ZR, the Smartphone can even record HD video while submerged, as reported by LA Times.

Xperia ZR can survive nearly 5 feet underwater for up to 30 minutes, however only in fresh water. As saltwater corrodes the phone, the device is not recommended to be taken into ocean.

Besides, the Smartphone is equipped with impressive features including a 4.6-inch 720p HD screen and a 13MP camera. It runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the latest OS from Google. The device not only survives in water but also captures 1080p HD video or photographs underwater using its 13MP camera. In order to capture fast action, the camera also shoots burst mode and offers 16X digital zoom. Xperia ZR will be available in four colors namely black, white, pink and mint colors.

The company will begin to sell the device worldwide in second quarter but hasn’t revealed the exact date for sale in U.S. Recently, Sony had unveiled the Xperia Z similar to Xperia ZR. The key difference between the two phones is that the former has larger, 5-inch screen and the latter is more water-resistant.
