Bangalore: Samsung has officially announced the world’s first device running of the latest Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 (WP8) platform at the IFA event happening in Berlin. This announcement gives a kick to Nokia who has a close partnership with Microsoft and they are going to launch new Nokia WP8 smartphones next week.

The new WP8 Samsung smartphone is dubbed as ‘ATIV S’ and comes with a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED HD display which is reinforced with strong Gorilla Glass II. The device has a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor along with 1GB of RAM. The phone will be made available in two variants - 16GB and 32GB.

Other mentionable features in this new Windows smartphone are; 8 megapixel rear camera, 1.9 megapixel front-facing camera, microSD card slot to expand the internal memory and the 2,300 mAh battery. The device looks good and very thin having a thickness of just 8.7mm.

Samsung has not revealed the pricing and availability of the smartphone, but we expect it will hit the world market by October.
