Samsung Unveils 16TB SSD, World's Largest Hard Drive

BENGALURU: Samsung has revealed its new hard drive at a recent Flash Memory Summit in California. The hard drive is claimed to be the world’s largest hard drive with a capacity of 16TB, reports Tech2.

This SSD claims to be the fastest SSD in the world. The drive has a capacity of 3.2TB in a 2.5 inch or 6.4TB in HHHL form-factor and is able to reach up to 1,000,000 IOPS. Till now the companies like Seagate and Western Digital have made hard drives with a capacity of 8 TB and 10 TB respectively.

The PM1633a manages to pack in almost 16 terabytes into a 2.5-inch SSD package. The drive uses between 480 and 500 of Samsung's new 256Gbit NAND flash dies. It is said to be obtained by squeezing many number of dies into one to get a standard 2.5 inch SSD case.

Any time soon the HDDs will be eliminated by SSDs. The price of the device is not yet revealed by the company and the device is targeted at the enterprise market.
