Samsung: New Leader of Affordable Smartphones

BENGALURU: The South Korean Electronics firm, Samsung, once again regains the top spot in Indian Smartphone market. In the first quarter of 2016, the company managed to capture 58 percent of market share. This was achieved by an eight million unit sales of Galaxy J series handsets, reports BI.
According to the Samsung’s report, the company’s volume share in this platform has also noticed a bump when compared to the last year’s statistics. This year, the company attained 55 percent hike in the volume share.
Earlier this month, during the launch of 2016’s edition of Galaxy J7 and Galaxy J5, Manu Sharma, Director-mobile Business, Samsung India said, “We had an overall market share of 48.6 percent in the first quarter of 2016.” He then elaborated on the new Smartphones that were launched, evading the topic of affordable handset segment.
Based on the country’s buying behavior, entry-level Smartphones cover about 65 percent of overall handset market. The affordable segment encompasses devices that are priced between
6,000 and
15,000. Both Indian and Chinese companies like Micromax, Xiaomi, Le Eco, Lenovo, Intex and Lava manufacture affordable phones in the market.
