Samsung Launches Thinnest Notebook in India


Bangalore: Samsung unveils the second generation of Series 9 notebook in India for 1,02,990. The company claims it is the world’s thinnest notebook measuring only 12.9mm and weighing only 1.16kg.

“The new Samsung Notebook Series 9 represents the ultimate in Samsung craftsmanship towards precision engineering and premium design. The new Series 9 embodies the originality and heritage of its predecessor while eliminating unnecessary factors. The refined aerodynamic design of the new Series 9 represents the best of Samsung’s design with top performance and functionality,” states Ranjit Yadav, Country Head, Samsung Mobile and IT.

Though the looks and specs of the device match the ultrabook category, but Samsung calls it as notebook. It sports 13.3 inch display with a resolution of 1600 x 900 pixels, powered with an ultra-low voltage Intel i7 Ivy Bridge processor at a clock speed of 1.9 GHz, 4 GB of DDR3 RAM, Intel HD Graphics 400 and 256 GB of SSD for storage. The notebook runs on Windows 7 operation system, however it will be upgraded to Windows 8 when it becomes available.

Other features include 1.3 mega pixel web camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Gigabit Ethernet, micro-HDMI, VGA port, one USB 3.0, one USB 2.0 and 3-in-1 memory card reader. The notebook is packed with 6 cell battery that provides up to 6.5 hours of battery life.

Along with Series 9 notebook, Samsung also launches Series 5 notebooks in India at a price point of 62,990. The Series 5 notebook comes in two screen size; 15 inch and 17 inch. Both the model are powered with Quad-Core Intel Ivy Bridge i7 processor, 2 GB of Nvidia GeForce GT 650M graphic card, up to 8 GB of RAM, 2TB of hard drive for storage and a blu-ray optical drive.
