Kinect For Windows Sensor Available For 19,990

Bangalore: Microsoft has launched their Kinect motion sensing camera for Windows and a software development kit (SDK). From August 8, 2012 the Kinect for Windows is available in India at a price of 19,990. Over the years Kinect on Xbox 360 has left behind all its competition and become a smash hit. This time around Microsoft isn’t just concentrating on developing this technology for PC games but also for professional applications.

Commenting on the rollout of Kinect for Windows, Anshu Mor, Business Group Lead – Interactive Entertainment Business, Microsoft Corporation (India) Pvt. Ltd said, “The incredible amount of innovation on Kinect for Xbox 360 this past year shows the potential for Kinect as a platform for developers and businesses to experiment, explore and create new offerings. This proliferation of great new content for Kinect, which we call the Kinect Effect, will expand even further with our commercial release of Kinect for Windows. We are excited around the new possibilities that Kinect will enable on the Windows platform, and the many different ways each Kinect for Windows based scenario could enrich lives and make using technology more natural for everyone”.

But now along with its gaming abilities Microsoft is looking at making the technology of Kinect applicable in other fields as well. As we speak there are many developers and engineers who are developing this and trying to tap into and use its features like skeletal tracking, face tracking, enhanced speech etc.

This was seen in the Garage Science Fair that happened in India. Many of the innovations developed by the employees of the Microsoft Development Centre were showcased at this event. There was a wide variety of innovations on display. Some of the members launched a pair of spectacles called Kinectacles which would help the visually challenged people. This was developed to allow them to move safely both indoors and outdoors. There was also a device called Kinect Bridge that would assist the speech impaired people to communicate with others with the Kinect motion sensor that is used while gaming.
