Intel in Tablet Market, Aren't they Late?

Bangalore: Intel, the renowned leader in the chip market, is now entering in the tablet market with its dual-core 'Clover Trail' Atom Processor. More than two years ago, Apple made the concept of tablet revolutionary with their iPad which came powered by ARM processors and from that time ARM has been the lead player in the tablet chipset market. Now, Intel's entry in this market has given the spectators a big more reason to put their eyes and ears in this sector.

The hardware partners of Intel such as Dell, HP, Acer and Asus showcased the new Windows 8 tablets like Dell's Latitude 10 with Intel's Clover Trail Atom Processor at 1.8GHz clock speed at an event in San Francisco recently. There were also some convertible devices like HP's Envy x2 and Samsung ATIV Smart PC in this event. This new species of convertible gadgets can be used both as laptops as well as tablets and are highly mobile.

With the integration of Intel's dual-core Z2760 'Clover Trail' (PDF) Atom Processor, building the thinnest of tablets of just 8.5mm seems to be possible for the manufacturers. The chipmakers also added that, the chip will increase the battery life of the device and over 10 hours of full day heavy usage and over twenty one days of standby time is achievable.

The Clover Trail Atom Processor based tablets and convertible devices will support Near Field Communication (NFC), which can pair the devices with just a quick tap, according to the statement made my Intel. The chip will also support HD cameras of up to 8 megapixels, Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G LTE. All the devices running on this chip will come with the full version of Windows 8 along with full compatibility and support for traditional apps and peripherals.

It seems Intel is somewhat late entering in the tablet market where ARM processors have already made their statement of acceptance. It will be worth watching what all Intel Clover Trail Atom processor has to offer to the customers in this segment of gadgets.
