Intel Unveils MICA, Its First High-Tech Luxury Smart Bracelet

BANGALORE: If you love jewelry, this sparkling bracelet from Intel might interest you. Although we know Intel as a chip maker, the company has put its emphasize on the wearable industry by partnering with fashion house ‘Opening Ceremony’ to create a smart bracelet called the MICA, which stands for "My Intelligent Communication Accessory,” reports Cadie Thompson of CNBC.

Unveiled for the New York Fashion Week, the MICA bracelet is designed by Humberto Leon and Carol Lim of fashion house Opening Ceremony, and sports a glamorous style accessory covered with snakeskin, as well as semiprecious stones such as obsidian and lapis. The product is made available by Intel in two styles, one with white snakeskin and the other with black snakeskin, each with different stones.

When it come to features, the MICA sports a 1.6-inch sapphire-glass touch screen that can display SMS messages relayed through the bracelet’s 3G cellular radio. Some of its other functions include alerts, notifications, like SMS messaging, calendar reminders, and messages sent directly to your bracelet. It can also be charged wirelessly or via a USB cable.

Intel spokeswoman Ellen Healy said, “This bracelet is a fruition of our efforts and we’ve been making progress in wearables for about a year now.” She also revealed that the company’s New Devices Group is working on 3D printing, drones, as well as other wearables.

“We aren’t limiting ourselves to fitness or health or fashion—there’s going to be more to come from us in the coming months,” she added.
