Google's Android For A Smarter Audi And Honda

Bangalore: Late last year, reports indicated Google and the German auto giant Audi were set to announce their partnership at this year’s CES. Well, there is something more to it. The search giant has gone a step further by creating a new organization, Open Automotive Alliance (OAA), reports The Telegraph.

The OAA already has four major automakers: Audi, General Motors, Honda and Hyundai along with NVIDIA, the chipmaker With OAA, Google hopes to make Android a widely adopted standard for in-car information and entertainment systems. This venture is likely to be a hit among Android fans because there already are a few who take pain to install their Android tablets such as, Nexus 7 in their cars, so that they can have access to the million of apps present on Google Play Store.”The expansion of the Android platform into automotive will allow our industry partners to more easily integrate mobile technology into cars and offer drivers a familiar, seamless experience so they can focus on the road,” says Sundar Pichai, senior vice president of Android, Chrome and Apps at Google.

With Android powered computers onboard, drivers would be able to access email, apps and music present on their Smartphones directly from the dashboard. Reports suggest, an improved voice recognition technology will also be incorporated that will allow complete hands-free control, drastically improving driver safety.

The consumers can expect to see cars integrated with Android technology by the end of 2014. In the meantime, the Alliance is expected to expand as other technology and automotive companies have been invited as well.
