"Good Enough" Android Smartphones At Just 5,000

Bangalore: The mobile market is abundant with Android devices and people are spoilt for choice; however, there is a very thin line that separates the cost of the most expensive and most affordable Android smartphones in India. The most expensive are the iPhones and Galaxy Notes which cost close to 50,000 to 60,000; while the cheapest cost less than 3,000. While the most expensive are not worth their price; the cheaper ones do not let you experience the best of what Android has to offer.

As the price of hardware keeps reducing, manufactures are able to equip the smartphones with better hardware, thereby lowering the cost of the devices. An Android powered smartphone, which cost about 10,000 until a year ago will now costs lesser after the introduction of Xolo A600 and Micromax Canvas A77. These latest devices by Xolo and Micromax have better hardware than the cheap phones and cost much lesser than the expensive ones.

A survey by Nielsen, a market research agency, reveals that an average Indian, when purchasing a smartphone, looks at three vital things: the duration of the battery, screen and brand. Until last year, any phone purchased for less than 10,000, meant compromising on battery, brand or size of the screen; but the Xolo A600 and the Micromax Canvas A77 do not allow room for compromise. They meet the criteria set by the user for a mere 7,500. These phones offering the “good enough” Android experience have good value for money; however, they are not for those who use their phones for gaming.

With better and cheaper hardware, it is not far when a “good enough” Android experience smartphone will cost the average Indian just 5,000.
