GoPro Introduces Gen-Next VR Channel and Live Streaming

BENGALURU: It hasn’t been the smoothest sail for San Mateo, CA based consumer electronic company GoPro in the last few weeks. The firm has been attempting to reverse the falling demand of its products for some time now. GoPro officially took the wraps off its six-camera Omni VR rig last week, hired one of Apple's top designers Daniel Coster as its VP of design, and partnered with over 100 companies with its new developer program, reports Tech2.

According to Engadget, GoPro will announce cutting-edge technology tailor-made for Virtual Reality enthusiasts and professionals in the National Association of Broadcasters show which kicks off today. The new set of products include a 360-degree Virtual Reality (VR) channel loaded with curated content from sponsored sportsmen and videographers. The company has plans of incorporating content by amateurs in the days to come in an attempt to add a different dimension from the eyes of non-pro. Except the URL; the sites for Kolor Eyes, a channel already owned by the company and GoPro VR are identical.

Another major announcement expected soon is the launch of a VR live streaming technology, rumored to be called LiveVR. Reports suggest that a modified version of the HEROCast transmitter will form the basis of LiveVR. The HEROCast transmitter has been developed to bring audiences closer to the action in sporting events as it interfaces with GoPro cameras to broadcast live video. A camera rig that mounts 6 GoPro Heros—Omni—will generate the VR video for these channels. The reports reveal that Omni rig will set a customer back by $5,000 for the entire set that includes everything from six cameras, Kolor software and smart remote to cables and memory cards. If the customer already owns Go Pro merchandise, they can buy the rig on its own for $1,500. The pre-orders open on the 19th of April, 2016.
