CES 2016 To Showcase LG's Rollable 18-inch OLED Display

BENGALURU: The future of display reality is already here as LG inches ahead to perfection, planning to unveil it OLED Rollable 18-inch Display this week at CES 2016 in Las Vegas. The flexible OLED panel has a HD class resolution of 1200 x 810 pixels. This display was first announced in 2014, according to firstpost.com.

As far as this design goes, it has only been a concept but it looks like LG is confident to show it off to the general public now. This kind of display can range from being a rollable tablet to a rollable newspaper and could also be used in advertising and signages. The prototype flexible 18-inch Oled display that will be demonstrated at the event isn't unprecedented- LG had shown off similar technology in July last year.

Consumer electronics manufacturers like Samsung, LG and Nokia have experimented with flexible, rollable and foldable display before and are usually the mainstay of every trade show. However, the benefits of a rollable display in a consumer environment would obviously be with transporting screens from one place to another. However, it does indicate that LG sees these types of futuristic displays as differentiation points for smartphones, tablets, and TVs.

LG envisions these types of screens, rolling up into our pockets or being made to wrap around interior spaces. The company will show off a 25-inch curved screen installed on the inside of a car at its Auto Zone section on the show floor.
