Apple Exits its Fast-Growing Model, iPhone 4s and 5c from Indian Market

BENGALURU: Apple has withdrawn the sale of its fast-growing sub-Rs 20,000 smartphone section in India to enhance its dwindling average selling price and profitability, which have been under strain in the country lately, reports Times of India.
Headquartered in the United States, the company drew away its iPhone 4s mode, which was selling for as low as Rs 12,000, successfully fulfilling the goal of gaining share and acquiring new consumers. Apple has also exited it’s another model, iPhone 5c, which was selling at Rs 20,000. After the withdrawal of these successfully selling models, the cheapest phone now available in the market is iPhone 5s, which is priced at Rs 24,000.
This is the company's first major step towards align its Indian product portfolio with the global business process driven by the Cupertino headquarters, after it took direct charge of Indian operations following the exit of its erstwhile country head from the company.
Moving a step ahead to prosper in Indian market, the company affirms the opening of development centre in Hyderabad.
"It's a step to improve the ASP (average selling price) which was falling since iPhone 4s was till recently one of their highest selling model in India due to its lower price," said Pulkit Baid, director at Great Eastern, a consumer electronics retail chain in eastern India. Counterpoint Research reports, Apple's ASP in India increased sequentially during the last quarter of 2015 due to the new iPhone 6s series, but it declined 20 percent compared to a year ago.
