Acer To Launch A Cheaper Android Tablet


Bangalore: Acer, the world’s fourth-largest PC maker by shipments plans to launch a cheaper android tablet Iconia B1 in early next year in an aim to grab market share in developing nations. This product will compete in the lower budget tablet segment. The idea of producing low budget tablet commenced quickly after its competitors launched aggressive and competitive price of low-budget tablets in the market. Company made a strategy to boost the profit margins in this year by selling high-end products in the market.

The Iconia B1 features 7 inch screen display with 1024-by-600 resolution and is powered by 1.2GHz dual-core processor. Like Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablets, Acer is launching this $99 Iconia B1 rather than selling $139 high priced one to enter the big Chinese market.

According to an Acer official, company made a project roadmap changes in response to big alterations in the tablet market .Especially after the launch of nexus 10 by Google and Samsung with a $399 starting price. With the arrival of Acer into this competitive market, the price war is expected to heat up.

According to WSJ, apart from the First Product Iconia B1 , company is preparing to introduce another low-budget tablet with windows 8 OS in the early next year 2013, as the present ones are very expensive.

According to IDC Acer has below 1.4% share of global consignments and also the 7-inch tablet market is getting crowded this year with lot of competitors .Daiwa Securities analyst Christine Wang said Acer will try to produce more low-priced tablets into the market to secure a strong foothold in the flourishing china market. Later on Wang said White-box tablet makers will be selling 60 million tablets in 2013, which proves the vastness of the market. As of now not single major PC brands sells tablet to their segment and compete with them.
