The enigma machine

The enigma machine was an electro-mechanical Rotor cipher machine developed and used in the early- to mid-twentieth century to protect commercial, diplomatic and military communication. Enigma was invented by a German engineer, Arthur Scherbius at the end of World War I.  The cipher machine looked like a typewriter, whose keyboard was linked to a rotor, which used to rearrange and reorder each keystroke multiple times to cipher a message. Eventually all the messages that were sent out used to be in Morse code and required certain keys, which changed at regular intervals, to decipher it.
