4 Things to See While Buying a Smartphone
3. Screen Resolution
There are two ways of measuring screen resolution- density of ppi (pixels per inch) and total pixel dimension. Ppi density is the number of pixels (smallest possible points) in a one inch square box. More number of pixels makes the picture more crisp and rich.
If you want sharper resolution, look for a higher ppi number. In terms of resolution, Apple is leading the smartphone market.
If you look, Apple’s iPhone 5 is having 326ppi with screen size of just 4-inches whereas Samsung Galaxy S3 is having 306ppi with a large screen size of 4.8-inches. Technically, Galaxy S3 is having more pixels but because of the screen size, the density is less as compared to iPhone 5.
The total pixel dimension is another method of measuring screen resolution. It is the total number of distinct pixels in each dimension that can be displayed. Total pixel dimension is usually quoted as “width x height” of the display screen with the units in pixels. The Apple’s iPhone 5 is having 1136 x 640 pixels and whereas Samsung Galaxy S3 is having 720 x 1280 pixels.
It is important to note that the screen size is directly related to consumption of the battery, larger the screen size, more is the battery consumption. Hence one need to keep this in mind while selecting his smartphone.
