Core Inflation: 9.8 Percent (official number, independent estimates are higher
Unemployment: 7.5 Percent
Benchmark Interest Rate: 14.125 Percent
Argentina's central bank president Mercedes Marco Del Pont has retained the 'D' grade she received in 2011. She has been governor of the central bank since 2010. One of the biggest challenges faced the central bank is the soaring inflation rates. And Inflation is also not likely to slide down this year because of high state spending, loose monetary policy, wage hikes and restrains on imports and export proceeds.
11. Teklewold Atnafu
2012 Grade: C
Country: Ethiopia
National Bank of Ethiopia Governor Teklewold Atnafu made his first entry into the central bankers' rankings on receiving a 'C' grade this year. The increasing global oil prices and poor harvests have driven the inflation rate into double digits in several African countries last year with Ethiopia's annual rate remaining at a high of 20 percent in July. Rapid economic growth in Ethiopia in recent years (GDP rose over 10 percent in 2011) has lead to rise in consumer prices in the nation.
12. Mohammed Laksaci
2012 Grade: C
Country: Algeria
Governor of the Bank of Algeria Mohammed Laksaci has made his debut into the rankings of the worst central banker this year. Laksaci is one of three African central bankers on the list.
Laksaci has been the governor of the central state since 2001. In the past year, he faced economic crises like a crashing local currency i.e the Algerian dinar which has fallen 11 percent against the dollar between April 30 and the end of July, according to Reuters.
