The World Bank has renewed its faith in India's economic prospects, urging international businesses to invest in India. Addressing the 'Advantage Assam 2.0 Business Summit,' World Bank Country Director Auguste Tano Kouame called India the 'shining light in the world' and ruled out fears of short-term economic instability.
Speaking at a session called 'Leveraging MDB Resources to Unlock Opportunities for the Private Sector', Kouame called on investors to concentrate on India's long-term growth. "If anyone is concerned about recent figures, we would like to say don't worry. India is the shining light of the world. If you are thinking of investing, then come and invest here. The Indian growth makes it the destination to invest", he said.
Kouame reiterated that slight deviations in economic growth don't change the World Bank's optimistic view of India. "We are not concerned about India's growth currently. We are very optimistic about India and will continue to be optimistic", he said. India continues to be the quickest-growing large economy, with the World Bank's Global Economic Prospects (GEP) report predicting consistent growth of 6.7% for FY26 and FY27, significantly higher than the 2.7% global average.
The GEP report credits this resilience to India's vibrant services sector and a renewed manufacturing foundation, supported by government-sponsored reforms such as infrastructure upgradation and tax simplification. These initiatives are driving local growth and reinforcing India's position in world economic stability.
India's economic upswing is also buttressed by the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) World Economic Outlook (WEO), which has projected growth of 6.5% in both 2025 and 2026. This is consistent with the IMF's previous estimates and underscores India's resilience in maintaining growth amidst global uncertainty.
With China's expansion forecast to ease to 4% in the coming year, India's vibrant performance cements its position as a top destination for international investors. As the world sails through turbulent economic seas, India's strong path offers an attractive proposition for companies looking for long-term prospects in a secure, high-growth economy.
