Residential Renewable Energy Tax Credits
You can get tax breaks if you go "green". If you make renewable energy additions to your house, you can claim for tax breaks. Solar energy systems, geothermal heat pumps, small wind systems and residential fuel cell and micro turbine systems are included in Department of Energy. You can claim up to 30 percent of tax credits on these improvements. Tax credits are reduced for projects that obtain other federal tax credits, grants, tax-exempt financing or subsidized energy financing. The credits are available only for renewable energy that was in reality sold, not just produced. It will also help in reducing your electricity bills and it would be a smart move towards greening your house.
