Sensex Rises 100 Points On Higher Growth Prospects


Tata Steel Ltd was trading at 405.95 on BSE, up 1.01 percent, after the company sold its Australian subsidiary for 143 crore to New Zealand’s Steel and Tube Ltd.

Suzlon Energy Ltd rose 5.66 percent to 14.75 on BSE after its German arm got $1.2 billion loan.

Since the beginning of this year, the BSE Sensex has gained 5.76 percent, while foreign institutional investors have bought $4.46 billion from local equity markets.

India’s general election has its second day of voting in seven parliamentary constituencies across five northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland. General election to be held in nine phases on April 7, 9, 10, 12, 17, 24, 30, May 7 and 12. The results will be announced on 16 May.

Indian markets were closed on Tuesday on account of Ram Navmi.

Japan’s Nikkei Stock Average was down 1.82 percent after the Bank of Japan governor Haruhiko Kuroda dismisses additional stimulus, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng up 1.11 percent while China’s Shanghai Composite was up 0.13 percent.

US stocks snapped their three-day losing streak. The S&P 500 up 0.38 percent, Nasdaq Composite was up 0.81percent while Dow Jones Industrial ended up 0.06 percent.
