PM Modi Says Arun Jaitley Will 'Come Out With Flying Colours' In DDCA Row

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said finance minister Arun Jaitley "will come out with flying colours" in the Delhi and District Cricket Association controversy raked up by the Aam Aadmi Party and backed by the Congress.

"Arun Jaitley will come through with flying colours in the same manner as L K Advani did in the Hawala case," Modi is reported to have said in a meeting of the BJP Parliamentary Party.

"The Congress is raking up manufactured allegations to defame the government," Union minister Venkaiah Naidu quoted Modi as saying in the meeting.

Meanwhile, the Delhi high court on Tuesday gave the five AAP leaders sued by Jaitley, including Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, three weeks to respond to its notice following a defamation suit filed by the finance minister.

Jaitley had filed the suit on Monday after a relentless campaign was launched by the AAP alleging financial irregularities in the DDCA, which governs cricket in the national capital.

Former cricketer and now a BJP MP from Bihar, Kirti Azad, had also held a press conference on Sunday and, without naming Jaitley, claimed to have documentary evidence of graft in DDCA. He later named Jaitley in tweets, daring the senior party colleague of suing him too.

Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha was adjourned twice as the Congress continued to protest, demanding Jaitley's resignation.
