BENGALURU: Gone are the days when people had to wait for their turn to pay their electricity bills. That extra effort, sweating body, and pockets budging with coins are all a thing of history. Paytm has indeed made life easy for everyone. Mobile bills, electricity bills, DTH recharges and much more, all can be done with just a click, thanks to Paytm. And guess what the Noida based organization has no plans to stop just now! Business Insider reports that Paytm is tapping the Indian offline merchants to increase transactions on Paytm's digital wallet. And for this, Alipay, a Chinese third-party online payment platform will be helping its Indian partner with technology.

"We are trying to get them to transact digitally, from paying at the milk booth, to booking cabs and movie tickets and paying for utilities," said Kiran Vasireddy, Senior Vice President-Payments, Paytm.

What this would mean is that Indian citizens would now be able to pay bills at the milk booth or small grocery stores by using Paytm. This will make life easier for the consumers as they won’t have to care about carrying changes anymore. Just a click and the amount will be transferred. Paytm plans to achieve 50 percent transactions from offline merchants by the end of 2017, which currently stands at 10 percent.

"India is different from China, cash plays a dominant role in daily transactions and the lack of payment options gives Paytm, the opportunity (to offer) convenient, fast and secure payment solution to brick-and-mortar merchants, as well as other O2O payment scenarios," stated Zhiming Fan, President, payment business unit at Ant Financial.

The demographics though are very different in China. In China, only 30 percent people use cash but in India, a staggering 95 percent people use it. Thus it is a tall order for Paytm to achieve but as they say where there is will, there is a way!
