How Restaurants Make You Spend More
5) Thirst Instigating Food
The very next basic instinct that kicks in after hunger is thirst. Restaurateurs are also very conscious of this fact. Restaurants serve a host of food items that will parch our throat and necessitate the ingestion of a fluid. A few of such thirst instigating food items include – pretzels, potato chips, breadsticks, Chinese food, spicy food, pop-corn, ice-cream, salted peanuts and even Colonel’s chicken. Chinese food and Colonel’s chicken trigger thirst as they contain Ajinomoto or Mono Sodium Glutamate (MSG). MSG is a salt and dries out our throat, making us thirsty. If we are thirsty, waiters can up-sell highly priced drinks to quench our thirst. So, the next time pretzels make you thirsty and you don’t want to spend a fortune quenching it, ask for water. Go for mineral water if you are loaded with money, else not.
