KYC is an acronym for "Know Your Customer", a term commonly used for Customer Identification Process. Thus to invest in Mutual Funds you do not need a demat or online account but need to be KYC compliant. Later you should fill a form attach the cheque for the amount you are willing to invest and it is done.
Once everything is processed you will receive a statement reflecting the details of your made investment.
