Bangalore: If you are planning to travel abroad this year, then keep overseas cover in your kitty as well. The perfect vacation can convert into a disaster if you and your family meet with an ugly accident. This might be a mood spoiler but these days insuring yourself while in a foreign land is highly advisable. Vidyalaxmi, of the ET Bureau, substantiates this valid point and gives 5 reason why you should have a travel insurance, while abroad -

1. Claim Settlement Ratio of Insurer

The most important aspect of buying travel insurance is to make sure that you are covered for medical emergencies, when abroad. But this too can have various loop-holes. So, you must make sure that the insurance company does not reject your application on baseless grounds. Suresh Sugathan, Head-Health & Travel Insurance, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance, says, "A traveler has to check the claims settlement record of the company which are usually available on the company's website or policy schedule." He also says that if this particular data is absent on the concerned site, cross-checking with other insurance firms for the same is advisable before getting the cover.
