Sensex ends 40 points up, on a volatile day
Mumbai: A benchmark index of the Indian equities markets managed to post marginal gains Thursday after being embroiled in a volatile day of trading. The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 16,317.16 points, closed at 16,330.12 points (provisional), up 40.3 points or 0.25 percent from its previous close at 16,289.82 points. The Sensex had fallen over 490 points or 2.9 percent Wednesday. The performance chart for 52-week is given on the left. At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty ended at 4,876.05 points, against the previous close at 4,853.1 points, a gain of 0.47 percent. Broader markets also closed with modest gains, with the BSE midcap index up 0.37 percent and the BSE small cap index ending 0.03 percent higher.
