Sensex ends 121 points down
Mumbai: Breaking the four-day winning streak, Sensex ended at 17590.17, down 121.18 points or 0.68 per cent. The index hit a low of 17558.22 and high of 17783.35 in today's trade. National Stock Exchange's Nifty closed at 5262.45, down 40.40 points or 0.76 percent. The broader index touched a low of 5251.35 and high of 5325. BSE Midcap Index ended 0.15 percent higher and BSE Smallcap Index gained 0.78 percent. The stock chart for 52-weeks is given on left. Amongst the sectoral indices BSE Realty Index was up 1.42 percent, BSE PSU Index gained 0.8 percent and BSE Power Index moved 0.16 percent higher. BSE IT Index was down 2.19 percent and BSE Healthcare Index slipped 0.94 percent. Shares of technology companies traded lower for a second straight day as the Indian rupee firmed up against the US dollar, which tend to affect margins of software companies. The decline was led by HCL Technologies (3.41 percent), HDFC Bank (3.06 percent), Ambuja Cements (2.83 percent), Sun Pharmaceuticals (2.66 percent), Wipro (2.53 percent) and Infosys Technologies (2.53 percent).
