Sensex advances 228 points as IT stocks rebound
Bangalore: Recovering its early losses, the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark index Sensex gained 228 points or 1.52 percent today on revival of buying in bluechip stocks especially of realty and IT segments. The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 14,951.49 points, ended at 15,240.83 points, up 228.51 points or 1.52 percent. The broader-based Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also closed in the positive terrain at 4,528.8 points, up 1.69 percent. Broader market indices also ended in the green, with the BSE midcap index closing 1.5 percent higher and the BSE smallcap index ending 1.61 percent up. Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Realty Index was up 1.69 percent, BSE IT Index gained 1.38 percent and BSE auto index moved 1.34 percent higher. BSE FMCG index declined 0.39 percent. Sensex gainers comprised Hero Honda (2.25 percent), ACC (1.65 percent) and BHEL (1.51 percent). Losers were HDFC Bank (-1.55 percent), Sun Pharmaceuticals (-1.19 percent) and ITC (-0.89 percent).
