Sensex Surges 241 Points In Early Session


MUMBAI: A benchmark index of Indian equities markets, the 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex), on Wednesday surged 240.98 points or 0.87 percent during the morning session.

The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading 66.95 points or 0.80 percent up at 8,432.60 points.

The Sensex of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 27,749.30 points, was trading at 27,886.51 points (at 9.35 a.m.) in the early session, up 240.98 points or 0.87 percent from the previous day's close at 27,645.53 points.

The Sensex touched a high of 27,894.27 points and a low of 27,743.99 points in the trade so far.

The rally was led by banking, realty, power and information technology (IT) sectors.

Also, the NSE index Nifty regained the 8,400-mark by rising 59.10 points, or 0.70 per cent, to 8,424.75.

Brokers said value-buying by investors and foreign funds which have been selling in the past several sessions on the Indian bourses, made fresh purchases in Tuesday’s trade, helped trading sentiment turn for the better.

Besides, a mixed trend in Asia played its part, they said.

Among other Asian markets, Japan’s Nikkei gained 0.72 per cent while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was down 0.33 per cent in early trade on Wednesday.

The U.S. Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.07 per cent higher in Tuesday’s trade.
